يمثّل هذا الكتاب افتراقًا صريحًا عن المراجعات التاريخية للعلاقات بين البلدين الشقيقين، فهو يرسم مسارًا جدّيًا للتفكير في ما هو آتٍ من تصدّعات سياسية وأمنية محتملة تستحضر الموروث الأسدي البعثي، ويقدّم بعض الطروحات لتفاديها. فالكاتب يأمل بتحقّق نموذج سوري مختلف يتعايش مع النموذج اللبناني المتهالك، ويؤسّس لمساءلة مشتركة على الخطايا المتبادلة، وآخرها خطيئة حزب الله السورية، مراهنًا على أنّ حكّام دمشق الجدد لن ينسخوا تجربة حركة طالبان الأفغانية، بل سيبنون تجربتهم الإسلامية الخاصة، ليطرح في هذا السياق السؤال عن شروط المصالحة التاريخية المنشودة بين الدولتين منذ الانفصال - الاستقلال.
بهذه القراءة الاستكشافية، ينظر الكاتب لمستقبل الشعبين اللذين ليس بينهما حدود دولية مرسومة، بل معابرغير شرعية، تفرضها الطبيعة... وتفرّقها السياسة.

This book clearly represents a departure from historical readings of the relations between the two brotherly countries. This book draws a serious path for reflecting on upcoming political and security fractures, invoking the Baathist and Assadist legacy, and offers certain proposals to avoid them. The author hopes for the emergence of a different Syrian model that can coexist with the fragile Lebanese model and establish a shared accountability for mutual mistakes, the latest being Hezbollah's Syrian involvement. He bets that the new rulers of Damascus will not replicate the Afghan Taliban experience but will instead build their own Islamic experience. Within this context, he raises the question of the conditions required for the long-awaited historical reconciliation between the two states since separation and independence.
Through this exploratory reading, the author looks toward the future of the two peoples who do not share formally drawn international borders, but rather "illegal crossings" imposed by geography... and divided by politics.
