दिवाळीच्या गोष्टी (Diwalichya Goshti) is a Marathi picture book with one story for each day of the Diwali season, from Vasubaras to Tulsi Vivah.
Each day, Aai tells Nyra and Kabeer the story behind it: King Dilip and the cow Nandini; the churning of the ocean of milk and Dhanvantari with the pot of amrit; Krishna and Satyabhama riding Garuda to free the captives of Narakasura; the lamps of Ayodhya on the night Ram came home, and Lakshmi walking through the bright, clean streets; generous King Bali and the three steps of Vamana; Yama coming home at last to his sister Yamuna; and Vrinda, who became the tulsi plant.
Every story ends back home, with what the family does that day: the cow and calf, neem and jaggery, the dawn oil bath, rangoli and diyas, the Padwa aarti, Bhaubeej, and a tulsi wedding in the courtyard. Written to be read aloud, for children aged 3 to 8 growing up with Marathi, in India and around the world, and for the grown-ups who read with them.
