Mais que cache cette image trop lisse ? C'est tout le propos du livre d'Alain Foix. Ainsi suit-on le jeune étudiant en médecine dans son voyage en Amérique latine, le voit-on rejoindre le Mouvement du 26-Juillet, renverser Fulgencio Batista aux côtés de Fidel Castro et devenir procureur d'un tristement célèbre tribunal révolutionnaire. Initiateur des camps de "travail et de rééducation", il a occupé plusieurs postes importants dans le gouvernement cubain. Après avoir subitement disparu de la vie politique nationale et avoir combattu au Congo-Léopoldville, celui qui affirmait que "le véritable révolutionnaire est guidé par des sentiments d'amour" est exécuté sommairement par l'armée bolivienne.
