Seven-year-old Francisco finds himself alone and scared as his father in one of his drunken stupor leaves him far from home, to sleep in makeshift box. Sophie, who has taken Esperanza's place in helping young homeless children, takes him to her home to care for him. Sophie finds that it is because of Francisco's physical impairment due to Polio that he has been discarded from his home.
