Die historische und kulturräumliche Entwicklung dieser hohen Männerstimmlage und ihr Auftreten in unterschiedlichen musikalischen Kontexten und Gattungen sind in der deutschsprachigen Musikforschung noch nicht in einem größeren Zusammenhang dargestellt worden. Der vorliegende Band möchte diese Lücke mit Beiträgen vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart füllen.
