Fast völlig vergessen ist hingegen das Leid, das die zahlreichen (Bürger-)Kriege, Vertreibungen, Pogrome und gewaltsamen Auseinandersetzungen nach Ende des Ersten Weltkriegs über weite Teile des Kontinents brachten.
