Mahmoud Dabdoub, geboren und aufgewachsen in einem palästinensischen Flüchtlingslager im Libanon, kommt 1981 in die DDR. In Leipzig studiert er Fotografie an der Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst. Er ist neugierig auf das Unbekannte und will zugleich ein Bild vermitteln vom Leben »seiner Leute« daheim. Dabdoub, der sich selbst als »Brückenbauer zwischen Orient und Okzident« bezeichnet, erzählt in seinen Fotografien vom Alltag der Menschen im Nahen Osten, der DDR und dem wiedervereinigten Deutschland. Wichtig sind ihm die »kleinen Leute«, die unter ganz unterschiedlichen Voraussetzungen versuchen, sich zu behaupten und in Würde zu leben. Ihnen begegnet er auf den Straßen und Plätzen mit einem Lächeln, Empathie und seiner Kamera.
