Ihre Friedensforderungen fanden in ganz Europa breite gesellschaftliche Aufmerksamkeit, sie selbst avancierte zu einer Identifikationsfigur des Pazifismus. In vorliegendem Werk erhebt die Autorin den Kampf gegen die chauvinistischen "Phrasencharlatane" ihrer Zeit zum Programm, da Phrasen "gefährliche Behälter [sind], die ... alle Begriffe, die man zufällig einmal in ihre Form gethan, wie einen Sprengstoff komprimieren, um dann, wo sie als Urteile hinfallen, als sinnverheerende Granaten zu platzen."
