Si, según dijo alguien, lo mejor de un viaje es la vuelta, Felipe Benítez Reyes, como un viajero que regresa de tantas travesías, nos incita aquí, ante su equipaje abierto, a disfrutar de cuanto ha juntado y aprendido en ese crucero por la vida: objetos, recuerdos, paraísos, estados de ánimo vividos o por vivir, todo lo que congrega el deseo y la memoria -«esa multitud»- en el bagaje intransferible y personal del poeta. Baúles y maletas, abiertos de par en par, descubren una sensación inédita en cada poema, recrean cotidianas y reveladoras vivencias del trayecto, y configuran el retrato íntimo del sujeto poético a través de calles, puertos y estaciones, galeones y hoteles, madrugadas, nostalgias de lugares jamás visitados y de sueńos aplazados. El equipaje abierto reúne poemas escritos entre 1992 y 1996 y, a modo de escaparate de pertenencias, «pequeńo catálogo de rutinas», como lo llama el autor, representa en su conjunto un alto en el camino, una sala de espera donde ignoramos si el autor deshace el equipaje o lo prepara para emprender una nueva travesía.
