Erasmus Grasser, wohl um 1450 in der heutigen Oberpfalz geboren, verdankt seinen Ruhm der überaus originellen Skulpturengruppe der Moriskentänzer für das Münchner Tanzhaus. In gleicher Qualität schuf Grasser aber auch Figuren für Kirchen und Klöster, die für sich betrachtet genügen würden, um seinen europäischen Rang zu belegen. Zudem erbaute er in Rorschach bei St. Gallen ein Kloster, erweiterte die Stadtpfarrkirche in Schwaz/Tirol und sanierte die herzogliche Saline in Reichenhall. Der Autor beschreibt in der vorliegenden Monographie Leben und Werk Erasmus Grassers. Der Werkbereich von Skulpturen für das Münchner Tanzhaus wird neu interpretiert. Mit noch grösserem Gewicht behandelt Rohmeder die Werke für Kirchen und Klöster und schliesslich seine Leistungen als Bau- und Werkmeister.
