This collection of essays brings about a current interdisciplinary debate on explicit communication. The organising theme of the volume is to address issues related to the work of Robyn Carston, or to provide a critical appraisal of some aspect of her work. As it happens, Carston's research is at the focal point of a very large and lively cross-disciplinary debate on linguistic underdeterminacy, the explicit/implicit divide and the construction or recruitment of concepts in on-line utterance comprehension.
