Allerdings ist Nikotin in einigen pflanzlichen Medikamenten in haherer Dosis enthalten und wird zum Teil auch im Gartenbau zum Ausrauchem von Schadlingen verwendet. 1m Karper wird es durch N-Derne thylierung zu Cotinin metabolisiert. Neben der Moglichkeit akuter Nikotinvergiftungen sind vor allem Studien zum Rauchverhalten haufig der Grund fUr eine Bestimmung von Nikotin undloder Cotinin in biologischen Proben.
