Als die "wagemutigste und erstaunlichste Aktion" des Zweiten Weltkriegs wurde die Entführung des deutschen Generalmajors Heinrich Kreipe im April 1944 auf der Insel Kreta bezeichnet. Zwei britische Offiziere einer Spezialeinheit und kretische Partisanen lauerten dem General auf, nahmen ihn gefangen und marschierten mit ihm 18 Tage und Nächte durch die Insel unter der ständigen Gefahr, von den deutschen Besatzungstruppen entdeckt zu werden. Vorgeschichte, Ablauf und die Folgen des in Deutschland wenig bekannten Kommandounternehmens Kreipe schildert dieses Buch.
