Honor Flight

At ninety-one, Jack Marshall has spent a lifetime keeping certain things to himself.

When an invitation arrives for an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., Jack isn't sure he wants to go. His granddaughter Carolyn has problems of her own: a broken engagement, a collapsing career, and two suitcases that have somehow become a plan for moving home.

Then Jack sets an old photograph on the kitchen table: a young woman laughing outside a café in Florence, a camera slung across her body. Her name was Anna, and she belongs to a part of Jack's life Carolyn has never known.

Carolyn is good at solving problems. Jack has spent seventy years learning that some things cannot be solved.

As the two begin uncovering the story behind the photograph, an Honor Flight meant to revisit Jack's past opens the door to a different journey, one that asks what families owe the people they love, what should be left alone, and whether understanding someone sometimes means resisting the urge to fix them.
