Diese neue Form von "Bilderschrift" basiert auf plattformübergreifenden OpenType Fonts, bei denen der Zusammenhang von Texteingabe per Tastatur und Textausgabe am Bildschirm bereits innerhalb einer Schrift (wie Arial oder Helvetica) frei zu programmieren ist. Das Buch zeigt nun, wie mit Icon-Fonts nicht nur persönliche Mitteilungen eindrucksvoller, lustiger und emotionaler zu gestalten sind. Rund 1000 Wörter werden durch die kleinen Bilder wahlweise ersetzt oder illustriert. Zudem bietet das Icon-Typing weiteres Anschauungsmaterial für den "Iconic Turn" / "Pictorial Turn" und die Idee eines "Pictorial Re-Turn" in der chinesischen Schrift.
