Miles Carter thought he had learned how to live with loss.

Years after the death of his fiancée, Jessica, he has built his life around their son, Sammy, moving from city to city wherever his aviation career takes them. Through cramped apartments, cheap motels, money worries, and the daily work of raising a child alone, father and son have proven that a family can survive even when life takes everything else away.
