Die stellte man sich vor wie ein Stadtteilfest mit Würstchen, Falafel und Cevapcici als unverbindlich-tolerantes Nebeneinander. Doch Autoren und Regisseure wie Vladimir Kaminer oder Fatih Akin wollen nicht länger auf ihre Herkunft reduziert werden und haben die Vorstellungen von deutscher Kultur verändert. Daher sollten, so Mark Terkessidis, die alten Konzepte überwunden werden. Er plädiert für eine radikale interkulturelle Öffnung. Alle Institutionen müßten darauf abgeklopft werden, ob sie Personen, egal welcher Herkunft, auch tatsächlich die gleichen Chancen auf Teilhabe einräumen. Nur so können die Potentiale einer vielfältigen Gesellschaft fruchtbar gemacht werden.
