Alewyn hatte sich in seiner Arbeit noch auf nur wenige aussagekräftige Texte bezogen und die große Anzahl nur zweitrangiger Werke vernachlässigt. Die vorliegende Arbeit versucht dagegen, Beers erzählerisches Gesamtwerk als wechselnden Ausdruck einer durchgehenden Erzählintention zu analysieren.§
