Violet Isabel Smith was born on August 19th, 1921, in Leaside, Ontario. She began her piano and voice training at the age of 8. She was, and remained deeply involved in her church throughout her life and credits her faith with carrying her through many challenging times.

Violet trained and worked as a registered nurse before she married in 1956. They had 2 children and then adopted 2 more. Violet gave up nursing and began teaching piano lessons to neighbourhood children around 1970. She continued teaching music and playing the organ at church for the remainder of her life.

The works that are included in this book were written throughout her life, with the last entry written just before her passing in 1991. She created this book as a gift for her children. We hope you will find it as inspiring as we have.
