James Mackenzie's whole world has been turned upside down. He has spent the last year by Marissa's side, trying to keep her safe from the serial killer who is stalking her. She had already been kidnapped once, three years ago. The killer has been watching her ever since, always close and always watching. Now the killer has her again, Mac is certain of it.

The police and FBI are less certain. Even some of her family members are convinced that Marissa just walked away from her life. Bodies had been recovered weeks ago, the case was closed. The stalker was gone, this is what the authorities said. There was no way she could be taken. After everything they've been through, he is certain that the killer is still out there and that he has her.

Three years of unmarked envelopes at her door, full of photographs of Marissa as she lived her life and the people in her life. Three years of flowers with cryptic meanings and threatening letters. It has all led up to this moment.
