Directed primarily at the medical student as an introduction to Clinical Neurosciences, this comprehensive textbook uses a unique approach to Neurologic problem solving in a systematic way. By first establishing a fundamental basic science knowledge about the cellular elements of the nervous system, the reader is presented with clinical cases in a pathophysiologic manner, as exemplified in unifying Guillain Barre and Multiple Sclerosis in one chapter on Demyelinating Disease. The reader is encouraged to adopt a systematic approach of sorting out Neurologic problems they may be faced with in clinical practice by identifying time and space factors based on the age of the patient (acute focal changes in vision for a 20 year old might suggest MS versus acute focal changes in an 80 year old that might suggest acute stroke, for example). With each disorder discussed, a pathophysiologic explanation for the disorder is consistently presented along with categorization by time & space factors, as well as use of an easy to remember mnemonic device (VITAMIN D,E) of causation as Vascular, Infective, Traumatic, etc.
