Einem biographischen und historischen Überblick folgt die detaillierte Beschreibung der Werke selbst. Dabei geht Rée systematisch vor und beschreibt zunächst Candids Wandmalereien und Altargemälde, gefolgt von seinen selteneren Arbeiten im Bereich der Plastik. Die Balance zwischen präziser Wissenschaft auf der einen und allgemeiner Verständlichkeit auf der anderen Seite wird stets gewahrt. Somit ist das Buch sowohl für Experten als auch für Laien nützlich und informativ. §Paul Johannes Rée (1858-1918) war Professor für Kunstgeschichte an der Kunstgewerbeschule Nürnberg.
