Ersatz für seine Sehnsucht fand er in der Kunst und versuchte fortan, die perfekte Frauenstatue zu erschaffen. Als ihm dies gelingt, verliebt er sich in die von ihm kreierte Figur. Die Götter hauchen ihr schließlich Leben ein, und Pygmalion zeugt mit Galatea, wie sie später genannt werden sollte, ein Kind. Der Kunsthistoriker und -theoretiker Jean-Claude Lebensztejn geht diesem Mythos in einem Gang durch die Kunstgeschichte nach und legt durch diese Motivgeschichte eine jahrtausendealte Utopie frei, die vielleicht bald Wirklichkeit werden wird.
