Six months ago, Nico Reyes was one victory away from another Grand Slam semifinal. Then his knee gave out in front of thousands of spectators, ending his career before he could play a final match, choose a farewell, or imagine who he might become without tennis.

Now thirty-five and trapped inside a body he no longer trusts, Nico wants nothing to do with the sport that took everything from him. But when he is offered a job as a mental-performance coach, refusing would mean admitting he has no idea what comes next.

His first assignment is Kit Alden.

Every loss threatens his sponsors, his future, and the sacrifices his older sister made to build his career. Kit insists he does not need another coach watching him fail. Nico insists he is only there to do a job.

As reluctant sessions become late-night conversations and hard-won trust, Nico begins to see the frightened young man beneath Kit's reckless confidence. Kit, in turn, sees beyond the controlled exterior of the champion he once idolized-to the pain Nico hides, the grief he refuses to name, and the terrifying emptiness left behind when winning is no longer possible.

Their growing connection could give them both something tennis never has: a place where they do not have to earn the right to be loved. But crossing the line between coach and player could destroy Kit's rising career, cost Nico the fragile life he is trying to rebuild, and force them to confront the question neither man knows how to answer.
