Marine Major Sarah Hawk was a Planetary Investigator for the Huggins Institute, the Democratic Federation of Earth's exploratory branch.

Sarah's support and main crew consisted of Captain Kayce Ansari, Warrant Officer Second Warrant Officer Yoshi Han, Betty Sloan, Warrant Officer First Cayla Harper, and Corporal Andrew Dixon.

These highly trained Marines were tasked with investigating and certifying a planet-sized moon called Pavona orbiting a gas giant planet named Pavonis B in the Delta Pavonis star system, 20 light years from Earth.

They find ancient sites leading to the discovery of a race of humans that had mysteriously been wiped out three hundred years ago.

They also become victims of a strange mental illness and determine a creature is feeding on them.

They also discover the facility built by another ancient race far advanced from the present day federation and operated by an AI computer named Reef.

Reef offers assistance and provides advanced technology to help Sarah and her team.

They have to deal with an ancient life form that feeds on other life and renegades attempting to destroy colonies for their mining operations.
