Tomoe Gozen

Japan, late Heian period.

In the mountains of the Kiso province, Tomoe Gozen grows up in a household where the sword is as important as the spoken word. Her father, convinced that his daughter possesses the same strength as any warrior, trains her in the art of war, preparing her for a destiny shaped by conflict.

At the service of her lord, Kiso Yoshinaka, Tomoe joins the war between the Minamoto (Genji) and Taira (Heike) clans-a conflict that will determine the future of the country. Her skill and bravery on the battlefield earn her a place of honor among the soldiers, but they also stir resentment in a world ruled by men.
