Durch seine mit größtem Erfolg aufgeführten Historiendramen Pompeius Magnus, Croesus Liberatus, Cyrus Punitus und Darius Proditus, die den Untergang mächtiger Herrscher zeigen, wurde der Rhetorikprofessor am Jesuitencolleg von La Flčche zum Wegbereiter der französischen Klassik.
