"''Tom, tyrd i lawr y funud yma,'' meddai llais un a adnabyddai Tom fel eiddo i Bill Tomos, porthor yn y Plas.

''Beth sy''n bod?''

''Mr. Pugh wedi''i ladd!"

Tra''n ymweld â bro enedigol ei thad, daw merch ifanc dan amheuaeth o lofruddio''r gŵr y mae disgwyl iddo etifeddu cartref ei thaid. Mae''r holl dystiolaeth yn ei herbyn: beth ddaw o Nest?

Ganed Mary Oliver Jones yn Lerpwl yn 1858 a bu farw yn 1893. Yn ei bywyd byr ysgrifennodd nofelau ar ystod eang o bynciau, ond yn enwedig nofelau hanesyddol. Roedd yn llais bwysig yn natblygiad y nofel Gymraeg hanesyddol ac ymhlith nofelwyr benywaidd fwyaf y Gymraeg yn y bedwaredd ganrif ar bymtheg. Roedd hefyd yn aelod blaenllaw o''i chymuned Gymraeg yn Lerpwl, ac yn enghraifft hollbwysig o gyfraniad y diaspora Cymraeg i lenyddiaeth ein hiaith.

Ymddangosodd Nest Merfyn gyntaf ar dudalennau Cyfaill yr Aelwyd yn 1892-3. Hwyrach mai dyma un o''r straeon ditectif cynharaf yn y Gymraeg. Y gyfrol hon yw''r tro cyntaf i''r nofel ymddangos ar ffurf llyfr, a''r gyfrol gyntaf o''i heiddo hi i''w chyhoeddi ers yr 1890au.

"Mae ei gwaith yn ddarllenadwy a difyr."

-Meic Stephens

Whilst visiting the place where her father was raised, a young woman comes under suspicion of murdering the very same man in whose favour her own father was disinherited. The motive is clear and all the evidence is against her: what will become of Nest?

Mary Oliver Jones was a member of the Welsh speaking community in Liverpool and one of several young female writers encouraged by Cranogwen to take up writing. Nest Merfyn is very likely the first crime novel written in the Welsh language and it''s a fascinating example of a unique, female voice in very early in the history of the Novel in Welsh. This volume is the first by Mary Oliver Jones to be published in over 130 years. Note: This eBook is in the Welsh Language
