I flere uker rundt årsskiftet 2005–2006 utsattes gutten – som led av autisme – for grov mishandling. Mishandlingen var så grov at domstolen senere valgte å betegne det som tortur. Mishandlingen førte til Bobbys død.Etter at Bobby var død, ble moren til Bobby og hennes kjæreste enige om å melde Bobby savnet samtidlig som de sank Bobbys kropp ned i en sjø ikke langt unna hjemmet.Det var en rekke forhold som til slutt ledet politiet til sannheten.Bobbys mamma og kjæresten ble dømt til lange fengselsstraffer, men ikke for mord. Guttens "stefar" anket til Högsta domstolen (høyesterett), som imidlertid avslo hans oppreisingsbegjæring i slutten av 2006.-
