In historical terms, the music Publishing Company Musikverlag Zimmermann owes its existence to the publication of pedagogic instruetion books for various instruments, written mostly in German, Englisi and Russian. Just a few years after its foundation in St. Petersburg in 1876, the Company was aiready running its own instrument makers' Workshops and factories, and had decisive influence on the design of many brass and woodwind instruments, Initially, each buyer of an instrument was presented with a free instrumental tutor book, an ideai that proved to be affective in terms of advertising and laid the foundations of the world's oldest Publishing Company of instrumental tutor literature. The "Red Tutor" series of Musikverlag Zimmermann were created by musicians working in Russia. The first author, Ernesto Köhler wrote his famous flute tutor in 1885, The "Red Tutors" have gone through numerous editions and have become a common background for several generations of music teachers.
