This book addresses the diagnosis and treatment of myocarditis. Myocarditis is a clinical syndrome, generally of infectious etiology, that occurs with a wide spectrum of relatively non-specific symptoms, and encompasses an inflammatory procedure of the heart with necrosis and degeneration of the myocardium by inflammatory infiltration of immune cells. The infection can result in direct injury of cardiomyocytes as well as immune-mediated devastation of the myocardium, ultimately resulting in cardiac dysfunction. This book consists of the extensive aspects of myocarditis completely described by renowned international veterans. It is concerned with both clinical aspects and pathophysiology, and it illustrates elaborative analyses of the causes of myocarditis, its diagnosis, classification, and treatment, as well as myocarditis in special populations like peripartum, pediatric and chronic chagasic myocarditis.
