The best-selling biography of Eminem - now fully updated
An unflinching account of rapper Marshall Mathers' rise to fame from his native Detroit to worldwide superstardom and on to his latest globally chart-topping album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
Laying bare Eminem's relationship with his mother, his teenage soulmate Kim Scott, and his friendship with Dr. Dre, The Dark Story of Eminem also investigates the violent death of his best friend, talks to the makers of 8 Mile, and covers his near-fatal addiction during a four-year disappearance from public view and triumphant comeback with the huge hit album Recovery.
Bringing the story up to date, Nick Hasted finds the newly straightedge sober star obsessively focused on making fresh music, resulting in five albums which are examined in unprecedented detail. And while Eminem's unlikely new guise as a wise American elder in tumultuous times finds him attacking Donald Trump and America's gun laws, and embracing Black Lives Matter, his anti-conscience Shady's provocation and mayhem continues, a contradiction brought to a head with the album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce).
