The Imposter

Impersonating a King's Officer is a death sentence, but Brent had decided long ago, even before the boy died that he would do it. He and the other boy, a midshipman, were captured by Muslim pirates, held for ransom and when it was not paid, both were doomed to a life of slavery.

After the years of torture and pain his chance had come, he escaped while a galley slave and was rescued by a British man-of-war. It was then that he began to lie, the only proof to substantiate his claim was the button off the boy's coat, would it be enough? The lies and came easily and thought the years he had rehearsed and refined them. but could he manage to convince the captain and the first officer? The risk was, as Brent knew, great, but even living the life of an imposter was preferable to a life on the lower deck.as a powder monkey.

Setbacks are a part of life and Brent has more than his share after his rescue. His dream of being a naval officer depends on an improbable rescue attempt of four important men from the pit he and endured and the substance of his nightmares. He, alone, knows of an entrance to the pit and it falls to him to succeed or die. Succeeding means he will have the life he dreams of failing means he will surely hang.
