L'originalité de cette étude réside dans sa pluridisciplinarité. Nous avons utilisé une approche multi-marqueurs basée sur le suivi des indices biologiques (biométriques et physiologiques) et l'estimation des teneurs en métaux lourds chez deux espèces benthiques, utilisées comme modèle expérimental, la moule et l'oursin. Cette approche représente un moyen d'évaluation environnementale peu coûteux et accessible à tous les pays permettant le suivi et la conservation des milieux marins côtiers. Elle peut être utilisée par un grand nombre d'intervenant du milieu marin. Par ailleurs, de tels indicateurs peuvent servir à détecter des signes précurseurs d'éventuels problèmes environnementaux, à identifier les causes des perturbations du milieu et à évaluer l'efficacité des mesures mises en oeuvre pour la restauration de la qualité des milieux naturels.
